Look back on the 2024 Australasian Youth Justice Conference
Wondering what to expect at the 2026 conference? Take a look at the 2024 conference in Melbourne!
In April 2024, the Conference came to life at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, bringing together the Australasian youth justice community for three dynamic days from 16–18 April. The program offered a rich mix of keynote addresses, presentations, panel discussions and interactive Q&A, creating space for learning, reflection and meaningful exchange.

More than 500 delegates from across Australia and New Zealand attended, representing academia, government, service delivery and advocacy. The keynote line-up featured internationally and nationally respected leaders, including Keith Cruise (Fordham University, US), Arrin Hazelbane (Department of Human Services, SA), Nyachan Nyak (Nas Recovery Centre, VIC), Professor Stephane Shepherd (Deakin University, VIC), and Meena Singh, Commissioner for Aboriginal Children and Young People in Victoria. Each keynote session drew a full house and sparked lively and thoughtful discussion.
The broader program showcased 63 oral presentations, four panel discussions, three symposia and three workshops delivered across 19 concurrent sessions. Presenters reflected the breadth and depth of the field, with contributions from academics, researchers, practitioners, advocates, and representatives from government and non-government organisations.
Beyond the sessions, the MCG provided a standout backdrop for connection and conversation. The atmosphere, food, networking event and informal discussions between sessions all contributed to a positive, motivating and memorable experience.
